Is Bruno Mars the Next Michael Jackson!?!?!

They even look alike! A little :/

The Super Bowl is one of the biggest and most exciting events of the year. But we’ve also heard the old saying ‘Half time is game time.’ Well Bruno Mars sure did prove this saying to be true during his Super Bowl 48 performance. Only the biggest and greatest stars of its time get the opportunity to perform during this historical event.

During the half time Super Bowl performance, Bruno Mars, 28, came out with a classic look, wearing a shiny gold jacket and a sleek black tie, giving him the perfect 50’s image. And might I add, he made quite the entrance with the child chorus and playing the drums. During Michael Jackson’s 1993 Super Bowl performance, he also made quite the entrance being air lifted into the sky and then magically appeared on stage. I will admit, although Mars’ entrance was great, it did not hold a candle to Jackson’s Super Bowl entrance. However, during the actual performance, Bruno Mars had the same energy as Michael Jackson did during his Super Bowl performance, which brings about the big question “Is Bruno Mars the next Michael Jackson?”

On stage Mars, like Jackson, has charisma that can light up an entire stadium. During this year’s Super Bowl, some of Mars’ dance moves on stage definitely brought about a ‘Jackson feel’ to his performance. Bruno Mars’ faster version of the moon walk and the splits during the song ‘Who You Rockin’ Wit” gave the audience a taste of Michael Jackson’s past performances. I had a flashback of Michael performing ‘Billie Jean.’

As I was listening to Bruno Mars sing, I immediately thought about Michael Jackson in his earlier career. Some of Mars’ singing was very strong and soulful, while also hitting high and clear notes. Jackson was well known for this similar way of singing. Some of my friends have compared Bruno Mars’ “When I Was Your Man’ to Michael Jackson’s “She’s out of My Life.” These two songs have similar messages and are sung in a similar range.

Mars’ performance with the Red Hot Chilli Peppers nearly sent the audience through the roof with excitement. When the Red Hot Chilli Peppers hit the stage, some people in the audience looked happily surprised. You could hear the screams from miles away and this added even more energy and excitement to his performance. Jackson was also great at surprising people during his performances. This reminded me of Jackson performing ‘Black or White’ with Slash during his 30th Anniversary Celebration. Slash, like the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, sings rock music. Both rock performers added surprising flare when entering the stage with these similar icons, Jackson and Mars.

Background: Like Michael, Bruno also came from a large, musically inclined family. Also, both stars got an early start in their career. Under the supervision of his uncle, Mars started practicing his stage performances at the age of 3, while Michael started at the age of 5.

My friends tweeted all over Facebook and Twitter about how amazing Bruno Mars’ performance was. One thing they forgot to mention was how similar his performance was to some of Michael’s past performances. Is the new Michael Jackson emerging right before our eyes? You be the judge.
